Video Project Water, Hygien and Protection in Somalia

Between August and December 2025, the project “Water, Hygiene and Protection in Somalia”, funded by Caritas Italiana and implemented by Caritas Somalia and VAD, helped to significantly improve the living conditions of more than 4,200 people in Bulo Burti District, Hiiraan Region.

Thanks to this intervention:

  • 2,800 people gained access to safe drinking water
  • 40 latrines were constructed, including facilities accessible to persons with disabilities
  • 10 solar lights were installed to increase safety for women and girls
  • 750 dignity kits were distributed to women and adolescent girls
  • 1,000 women and girls were trained on gender-based violence prevention
  • 2 Water Management Committees were established to ensure community-led and sustainable services

A project integrating WASH and protection, placing dignity, safety, and resilience at the heart of support for the most vulnerable communities, with special attention to women, girls, and persons with disabilities.
